It's been a hectic week - I think that about most all weeks though.
Tuesday was early release and while that is wonderful for all of us, it made the entire week seem much longer and harder. Kids didn't get back into the swing and neither did the adults.
Then there was the cookbook for Relay for Life, Debbie and I volunteered to make. It took me all of Wednesday and Thursday to get the pages corrected and printed and we started publishing on Friday. Who'd of thunk we would have it done by the end of Friday? Almost 100 copies, most we hope to sell at the Fashion Show on Monday night. If we have to make more, we will. The proceeds go to Relay for Life & American Cancer Society, so I'm hoping we have to make more.
To finish off the week, I come in Friday morning only to find that JoAnn was out for the day. I knew I had to be Carla for 5th grade and with JoAnn out, I'm usually her - not that I mind either place. So they got a sub for JoAnn but the sub had to be me and I was JoAnn. It worked out better this way, as I had time to get the weekly newsletters uploaded and some other odds and ends I put off during the week, because of the cookbook.
So there is my week at work. Thankfully, the school courses were not hard and I had most of it done by Monday. Taking my homework to the track helps give me a head start while the boys are playing with the car.
Allis is now taking her preds every 3rd day and doesn't show signs of not eating. I think she has problems with Andy feeding her but I don't have a problem when I feed her in the afternoon. She is looking so much better and her energy is way up. I'm pretty sick of throwing the ball down the hall.
Ramblings of thy Unknown Kind
It started as a personal blog but I added some of my stamping/card making samples and who knows where it will end up.

He Drove Himself?
Finally, it's spring break and everyone is in desperate need of a break. Kiddos were wild all week as were the adults. My week ended with Andy taking himself to the hospital for chest pains and I missed the Relay for Life 5th grade competition against the teachers. If what I heard is right, one of the teachers came away with a black eye, but we won!
So yeah, Andy drove himself to the hospital with chest pains. He woke up complaining about indigestion and said he had it since 3 a.m. I suggested he call his GP, which he did after I left for work. She told him to take an aspirin and go to the E.R., so he heads out stopping at the convenience store for aspirin when his Doc calls him back to say "Don't drive yourself!", too late he was half-way there. After paying the water bill and chatting with people in the Hospital lobby, he finally goes into the E.R.
I texted him around 10 and didn't hear from him so my imagination was a little more than active. When he did call back, he was in the E.R. waiting for results. About an hour later, he called and told me the E.R. Doc was putting him in the hospital and they think he has Type 2 Diabetes. That got our attention. I headed to the hospital after a quick stop home for some supplies for Andy. Then the waiting began.
Good news: No Diabetes. Andy had popped a peppermint in his mouth before going into the E.R. and hadn't eaten ANYTHING since midnight, so his sugar spiked. (His blood pressure spiked after being told he had diabetes!) Since he had come in complaining about chest pains, they automatically keep you overnight so they can do enzyme tests to check for a heart attack - which thankfully hadn't happened.
What the cardiologist and hopitalist both think is that he has Acid Reflux and will be treated for that. He will still do a stress test just to make sure nothing is wrong with his heart this week and we see his GP Monday for good measures. After doing a little research on Acid Reflux and what he can eat, I not so sure he's thrilled about the outcome but I'm sure the GP will give us a better list of what he can and can't eat.
My other sickie, Allis, is doing much better. She's still eating 3x a day but her energy is up and she looks much better. I'm not sure how to tell if her liver is regenerating, but I'm sure we will find out. Since I have off this week, I'll probably take her to the doctors also.
That leaves Gil and myself and other than tension and school and college and cooking dinner (which I share with Gil) we are good. Gil hopes to play in his race car this week but the weather from the weekend has made a mess of things, not sure how that will end. His boss is also on a business trip and the owner will be visiting the store all week. Gil is excited because he'll work 40+ hours this week. I'm hoping to get some odds & ends done, make some cards, clean some closets, get rid of stuff that's accumulated.

March's entrance
It has been a very long week, starting with TAKS on Tuesday. There is more stress in our little building from that one test than the previous 6 weeks produced. Even our Kindergarteners to 2nd graders felt the stress and they aren't being tested. It shouldn't be this way but it is and I'm sure every public school in Texas suffers with the stress. The rest of the week was more relaxed at least, but it has been a long week anyway. What's bad is we do it again in April.
Allis seems to be recovering nicely. She has gained weight since her diagnosis and we've reduced the steroid that helped increase her appetite & she is still eating. Yeah! Poor Casee has to endure Allis getting more food and more attention all this time and she's being really good about it. She sits with me while we watch Allis eat and there are times I think she growls at Allis to tell her to eat when she tries to walk away. Of course, Casee gets to eat what little crumbs Allis leaves behind and she gets an occasional treat but that's about it.
School is getting better. I'm not stressing out as much during the week now that I realize I was overdoing the homework. I do have a book report due the first week of April and collaboration project due in May. Some of the communication projects have been easy and others a little more detailed but I'm handling it and work. Gil helps by cooking at least once a week and Andy brings dinner home on occasion. TV dinners haven't gone out of style in my home either.
On the family side, my paternal aunt passed away this weekend and Andy's paternal uncle is not doing well. My dad celebrated his 80th this month also. It's been an interesting first week of March!

Blogging... what things of interest do I have to say and who the heck will read it?
Gil is cooking a little more. He's actually a pretty good cook. He made steak sandwiches last night that weren't too bad for his first time. School & work keep him busy.
Andy still plays with his cars. Paris is the racetrack of choice this year and he's excited and ready. Of course, Gil will be doing the driving.
I'm going to school to work, going to school on-line to get finish a degree and coming home. Nothing too exciting.
Allis, our 4 year old Shepard has been the main focus these last few weeks. She has lost a great deal of weight (120 down to 74 pounds) and the vet did exploratory surgery on her. We found she has Chronic cirrohisis of the Liver and her liver function is only 15%. Now that we know, we are treating her with Antibiotics and hoping that she gains weight with meds and feeding her table food if she wants it. We re-visited the vet this week and she is up 3#! Her appetite is back because of the steroids we are giving her which is a big help. I guess the good thing about the surgery is that it wasn't cancer & she's still with us, and that she hasn't acted ill during the whole process - just didn't eat.

A quick getaway
For three years Andy & I have tried to get away for a vacation, break, whatever. At first the problem was minor health issues, who wants to take a plane ride with sinus infections? Then it was a sick cat. We finally had Butler put to sleep in September. She had renal failure but she lived a long luxurious 19 years. The last time we tried to leave town, my truck had front end problems so we couldn't leave. So here it is, the day after Christmas & we finally escaped.
We left home with a carry-on and wal-mart bag of clothes and shoes, not planning a long trip. I'm not sure why the wal-mart bag - probably says something about us not being big travelers. We headed to town to have lunch with Gil - he had to stay and care for the dogs and house. We then headed East for Hot Springs, AR. Andy had planned to get there in time to take me to see the Christmas lights at Garvan Woodland Gardens. From what we can tell, it's probably the only major light display for miles. By the time we got close to Hot Springs it was dark & misty.I don't think Arkansas has street lights on their highways either, as it was unusually dark. Andy hadn't checked a map and I had my iPhone but am not your best map reader - even using Google maps! Heading into the hills, it became foggy and misty. Andy was admitting he couldn't see in the rain/fog like he used to - about the time we came to a hair-pin curve. Of course, my phone rings at that point and I have a conversation with my brother-in-law but have no clue what we talked about. It was scary and funny now that I'm home. Andy finally stopped and asked for directions and we safely arrived at the Arlington Hotel about 8:30 p.m.. The gardens close at 9:00 and the concierge advised us we didn't have time to view our reason for the trip. So what to do? We ate. We ate German Food in downtown Hot Springs. We were definitely on an adventure.
The next day, there was a major storm heading our way from the West - home. We decided that we would take a casual drive around and then head on back - maybe finding something to do on the way home. With the weather change, it was overcast, almost dark most of the trip West bound. We did explore Hot Springs and will probably attempt another trip at a different time of year. The Gardens were on a windy dirt road so we were happy we didn't go last night & of course, they were closed most of the day due to the Holiday Schedule, so we couldn't visit even in daytime. We also explored Arkadelphia, their County Court House and 2 college campuses. It's a nice town. The torrents of rain started as we left Arkadelphia, this time I was driving. We passed thru Hope and saw the big signs that proclaim Pres. Clinton's Home and by the time we made Texarkansas the rains were finally letting up. We actually saw sun when we got to Paris where we had dinner, then headed home to unpack & relax(!).
OK, so our trip wasn't the most adventurous but it was our first time to get out in so long, it seemed like a major adventure. Just getting to our destination and getting home was half the fun! Maybe next time, and there will be a next time, I'll have something a little more exciting.

Winter Break
Winter break has officially started. Our school board was very generous and gave us a nice bonus to start the holiday with also. It will come in handy.
My winter break plans start with a visit from the parents. They will be here for the weekend. Nothing special is planned (not a good thing) so I guess shopping will be in order to keep them busy. A couple of Dr. Appointments, possibly a trip to Hot Springs, AK, and New Years Eve with friends at the Stars game and then back to school. Actually, I go back to work on Jan. 5 because college won't start until January 20.
I'm kind of nervous about going to college again. I know I just finished a course, but that was at a Jr. College. This is my 4th college to go to and I'm still scared & nervous about going. Funny thing is, I actually don't go anywhere, I stay home and take the classes on-line.
When I last was in school, I was feeding cards into a card reader and learning to punch the cards. I think we had CRT's & CPU's. I'm in the process of looking at a iMac, monitor and brains all in one sleek monitor. You think some time has gone by? I carry an iPhone, which is another form of a computer & it has the ability to call people! Isn't technology great! I love it. I'm hoping that if I do get thru this time, I'll be able to teach the kiddo's about technology and they can create even grander designs.
